six more mostly Steinweiss covers
The next six Decca Dl9000s. Some are signed Piedra Blanca. One – Pictures At an Exhibition – seems to be unlikely to be Steinweiss. But I like it anyway. The rest are, to my mind, obviously Steinweiss.
the next six piedra blanca Steinweiss covers
the next six Decca Steinweiss covers that I have. All issued in a short time frame. I sometimes wonder: if Steinweiss had never had his golden age, 1945 to 1950, would I still collect his work for the mid-1950s (these) … Continue reading
more steinweiss decca dl9000s, overlooked before
I had shelved a whole bunch of steinweiss decca lps on a different shelf than the ones already shown. So, here are 8 of them. Almost all are signed piedra blanca. Some great stuff.
the last Steinweiss decca records by catalog number
These are the last, chronologically, of the Steinweiss Deccas. These are from the late 1960s to 1970 or so. This is the tail end of Steinweiss’ active career, he retired in the early 1970s, when he was only in his … Continue reading
six more late 1960s steinweiss decca records
the next six of my late 1960s alex steinweiss designs for Decca records. Again, I think he was very inventive at this point.
Steinweiss in the late 1960s
These are six Steinweiss designs on Decca in DL10000 numbers. They seem quite a bit later than the previous posts. The backs read Decca, a division of MCA, Inc. According to http://heroinc.0catch.com/decca/ this should date them to 1966 or later. … Continue reading
the remainder of the dl9900s and a few dl10000s
The last few of my Steinweiss Decca DL9000s, and they are Steinweiss. then a few DL10000s. I think the Serge Jaroff is probably not Steinweiss, but include it just in case.
the next three Decca covers, mostly Steinweiss
Two of these are signed Piedra Blanca. The one in the middle, Leopold, I give a 50% probability to it being Steinweiss.
my favorite steinweiss series – grand opera
five of the Grand Opera series with Steinweiss covers. I find him very clever on these – opera was his element. I also show one more Holiday in cover, just acquired. All mid 1950s. The back cover of the Shostakovitch … Continue reading
a columbia steinweiss reissue
I just acquired the reissue of Columbia ML4739. Mitropoulos conducts what was the Phil Symph of New York, now renamed the New York Philharmonic. The work is Shostakovitch. The original cover is one of the last designs Steinweiss did for … Continue reading
