a minimalist period for Maas (and Joan Drew) at Mercury

More interesting than the previous Maas covers, to my taste. Mostly not necessarily designed by Maas, but I think most of them were. There is this nice series with illustrations by Joan Drew, of which I only have a couple. … Continue reading

George Maas and Harry Ries

early 1960s again, Mercury MG50100s. Mostly designed by George Maas, and mostly photographed by Harry Ries. Nice enough, but if it hadn’t been for Maas’ early 1950s covers I certainly would not have collected these. I contrast this with some … Continue reading

A correspondent has pointed out to me that the signature on MG50015 is Freund Lurye. That was in the last post. And that another cover is signed D. Maas, which is not the Maas we know. There is so much … Continue reading

the next few MG50000 series, mostly Maas

MG50015 is signed by the designer, but I can’t read it. It is clearly not Maas’ signature. The rest of these are almost definitely Maas, but this one gives me pause about my identification abilities.

more of Maas’ brilliant Mercury MG50000 series

Little to say. Mid-1950s. Some real beauties.
