Many mainstream singers, once released from their contracts with major labels, go on to record for Word or Myrrh – Christian religious labels. These albums serve Word’s evangelical purposes – to show that people can be saved. Presumably they also serve Word’s financial purposes – there must be a market for Christians who are willing to buy an album by a musician they once liked. Dion DiMucci, Maria Muldaur, Burl Ives all recorded for Word. the most successful of them in having a post-career new career is Anita Bryant. These are the first four of her Word albums. On Columbia she had recorded religious, patriotic and romantic music. On Word, religious and patriotic continued. The covers are good enough in a vernacular way – one knows from the cover that the content will be religious and schmaltzy.
