alex steinweiss in memoriam 5: Remington


In case anyone doesn’t know it, Alex Steinweiss began at Columbia records in 1939. He did all of Columbia’s record covers for the first few years, and the majority of them after that until around 1950. After that, he did a few more Columbia covers, ending in around 1955. Starting in the late 1940s, he also worked for other labels. Sometime in the early 1950s he began designing for Remington Records, ending a few years later. He did not do that many covers for them. He did, however, design their overall look – the Remington stripe down the left side of the cover, and the label. Here are four favorite Remington covers that I have.
