Six more. There is a danger with trying to identify an artist you love just by what an artwork looks like. The Lombardo here is one of the ones I would guess to be Steinweiss, 75% chance. But it is signed Joe Weitz. So who knows? Some of them are probably Steinweiss.

these are the next six Decca DL8000s from around 1955 that I own. Only the Camarata strikes me as definitely steinweiss, but any of the rest could be.

These are the next four DL8000s that I have, and that I think are Steinweiss. And here are two DL4000s that I bought last week (for 2.5 cents each!). The DL4000s are about 10 years later than the DL8000s.

the next five of my Decca DL8000s. The Ink Spots one need not be Steinweiss, the other five I would put a 99% confidence interval on for being alex Steinweiss designs. I think they are all really beautiful, except the Ink Spots one. I especially like that one of them comes in all the colors of a litmus test.

the next five. Whether these are steinweiss designs I don’t know. I think the Holiday magazine series is, and these are the first two of those that I have – more to come. Bing Crosby? I don’t know. Certainly the drawing isn’t. I show the back cover because this is the original version, and this is typical of Decca back covers of that time.

The next nine of my Decca 8000s, around 1955. The first one looks a lot like Erik Nitsche, a few are almost definitely alex steinweiss, and the rest could be. They are not signed.

The next eight and one color variant. It seems to me that I should pick up every copy of every cover I see from before 1955, because there are always color variants.

all of these are alex steinweiss designs, except probably White Christmas. A few are signed Piedra Blanca. All are 1954 designs. They are also an excellent batch of designs – not as vibrant as his late 1940s work, but very clever and beautiful in their subtle ways.

this is the post that got wiped out by a glitch. these are the last six decca DL4000s that I own, actuall DL75000s – 7 for stereo, 5000s because they ran out of numbers in the 4000s. I do not know if all of these are Steinweiss designs, but some are. He was definitely still working for Decca at that point, I have a few later ones in the 9000 series that are signed. I think the early 1950s ones are better designs overall, and the Columbia late 1940s ones better yet.
